Freedom by Design

Driving every short trip adds up, and cycling isn't for everyone. We thought there should be another way.

The EPED Swift

Four years. Six versions. Every detail considered.

Every version brought the same things closer: an upright seat you step onto easily, a ride that soaks up everyday roads, and room for what the day needs.

  1. A wide, upright seat keeps your head up and your view clear, and the low step-through frame means no swinging a leg over a crossbar, even in work clothes.

  2. Front suspension forks and twin rear shock absorbers take the sting out of potholes and speed bumps, and the chain drive is enclosed, out of the way.

  3. Disc brakes front and rear, for confident, controlled stopping.

Explore the Swift

It looks like a moped. It's classified as a bicycle.

The Swift is an electrically assisted pedal cycle, or EAPC. Its 250W continuous-rated motor helps only while you pedal, and stops helping at 15.5mph. So you ride it on the same terms as a bicycle, without a moped's paperwork.

  • No driving licence
  • No vehicle tax
  • No MOT
  • No registration
  • No compulsory motor insurance

For compliant use in Great Britain, by riders aged 14 and over.

Where you can ride

Running costs

More miles. Less money.

Charge at home from a household socket. See what your everyday journeys could cost.

About 10p

of electricity to ride 50 miles, charging off-peak

Exact figure on these assumptions: 8.8p

Petrol for the same 50 miles: £7.07 (45 mpg, 140p a litre)

Assumes 1.1 kWh from the socket per full charge, 50 miles per charge and 8p per kWh. The battery stores about 1.0 kWh (48 V × 20.8 Ah); the extra 0.1 kWh allows roughly 10% for charging losses. Your tariff, riding and charging will differ.

40

40 miles is a 4-mile trip each way, five days a week.

Compare total running costs

Your journey, on your terms

Made for the trips in between.

Work, the shops, friends across town. The Swift goes when you're ready and parks where a bicycle parks.

  1. 07:50

    The commute

Leave when you're ready, not when the timetable says. Take cycle lanes where they're open to you.

  2. 12:30

    The errand

The post office, the pharmacy, the bank. Lock up near the door and get on with your day.

  3. 17:45

    The shop

A front carrier as standard, and a rear shelf ready for a top box on single-seat builds.

  4. 19:30

    The evening

Across town to see friends, with no last train to watch for.

  • Cycle routes. Use them where cycling is permitted.
  • No ULEZ charge. No clean-air-zone charge for the Swift.
  • Cycle parking. Park where bicycles park.

Ride on roads and on cycle routes where cycling is permitted.

Charging that fits your life

Charge it like your phone.

The 48 V battery lifts out, so it charges wherever you do. No driveway, no wallbox, no charging point required.

  1. 1Lift the battery out.
  2. 2Plug it into an ordinary household socket.
  3. 3Ride on: 80% in about 3 hours.
